Decorating A Teen Girl's Bedroom
Transitioning from being a child to being a teenager can be both exciting and challenging. One of the biggest changes that might be noticed is the desire to be more grown up and have a new sense of maturity reflected in the teenager's style, both in terms of how they dress and in their own space, their bedroom.
On this project of decorating a teenage girl's bedroom, we wanted to create a cosy, girly sanctuary. We had some key pieces of furniture to work with, and freedom to source whatever else was needed. The previous decor was also really beautiful, Laura Ashley style, but suited to a much younger child, and with the advancement of being a fully fledged teenager, a major update and makeover was needed.
The colour scheme for the project was French Grey, White and light pink. The wallpaper was striped back from all the walls and a lovely French Grey paint colour was added, skirting boards, architrave and doors were painted Farrow & Ball Pointing. The flooring was a dark, laminate and didn't need any work. A roman blind in pale pink was measured and ordered for the window. The pendant light fitting in the ceiling required something that would give it a nice soft glow, and for this we chose a feathered lampshade. For bedside lamps, we used the existing touch lamps, as they matched perfectly with the new decor.
As the bedroom is quite narrow, we opted for a Willow & Grey Interiors brass and marble side table, which complemented the brass detailing on the bed. We also incorporated brass and gold coloured accessories into the finishing details.
One of the top requests was for a Hollywood style mirror with lighting all around it, to sit on a dressing table. We sourced this on Amazon. All other new furniture, the chest of drawers, tall boy, dressing table, stool and the most gorgeous, luxury pink velvet chair were sourced from Willow & Grey Interiors.
For wall decor, we ordered three prints with gold frames from Desenio and we were delighted with the quality of them. We ordered a wall decal from Amazon, which reflected one of the favourite sayings of the teenager, "Hakuna Matata, No Worries"!
To create a sumptuous, layered look on the bed, we purchased bedding from TK Maxx, along with throws and bedspreads. All cushions and bunting at the base of the bed were from ourselves at Willow & Grey Interiors.
Accessories were collected from lots of different places, Penneys, Debenhams, Next and Dunnes Stores. Faux flowers were added along with some nice candles and lanterns to create a lovely night time atmosphere.
